So much so that we've decided to launch a podcast about it.
Podcastles is a weekly podcast brought to you by the two of us - Nikita and Georgia. Every week we're going to explore the history of England through the castles scattered across the country. With some palaces thrown in there as well, of course.
And, as it turns out, there are a lot of castles and palaces.
How are we going to get through them all? Well, we're glad you asked.
We'll be focused on a different county every month and, in each month, we'll zoom in on the different castles. Some of the bigger castles will get a whole episode to themselves, but there are also lots of smaller castles that we just couldn't leave out. So they'll be grouped together in episodes of their own, too.
At the end of every county, we're going to branch out a bit from the castles and the history that they can tell us. We'll take a theme that we've seen crop up within that county's castles and discuss it with each other. The castles will be a springboard into wider topics, from the power of the nobility to crime and punishment to... well, you'll have to wait to find out.
In every castle episode, we'll look at how that castle came to be, how it's changed, and the interesting stories we uncover. Of course, we've got a whole section dedicated just to the ghosts and skeletons that we find hidden away there! We'll also look at the influence that castle and the people who have lived there had, and compare it to the other counties and castles along the way.
